Alternative Christmas Fair

Publications — Nov 27, 2017

As we pursue our mission of “knowing Christ and making Him known,” our desire is to be part of a global movement of people and churches resisting the cultural Christmas narrative of consumption.  This year we choose a revolutionary Christmas by worshipping fully, spending less, giving more, and loving all. Join us!

How do I participate?
If your Christmas tradition is to give presents to family and friends, consider NOT giving your usual gift.  Instead, make a donation in honor of your loved ones that will benefit the people served by Good Shepherd’s 2018 Ecuador, Alaska or Haiti missions. The average donation is $20, but any amount is welcomed.

What mission-related gifts will my donation represent?
CHOOSE one of more:

  • Ecuador: Donate toward water filters for Chuvitayo, Ecuador, a remote jungle village where access to clean water is a daily struggle.  Our mission team will serve in Ecuador from June 26 to July 4, 2018.
  • Alaska: Donate toward gift cards that will be shared by our Alaska Mission team with needy families in Anchorage. Mission dates: July 29 to August 4, 2018.
  • Haiti: Donate toward: 1) adjustable eye glasses that will be distributed during our team’s mobile medical clinics in January, 2018; OR 2) tuition and school supplies to help educate a Haitian child through the “Save A Seat” program; OR 3) iron fish (iron cooking ingots) to help reduce anemia in our Haitian patients.

What will I give my family member or friend to show that I have made a donation in their honor?
You will pick up a Christmas card(s) at the Alternative Christmas Fair table on the patio that informs the gift recipient of the nature of your donation.

How do I make my donation?

  • Pay by cash, check or credit card at the Alternative Christmas Fair table on the patio on any Sunday from Nov 26 through Dec. 17; OR
  • Pay online by visiting: https://squareup.com/store/good-shepherd-lutheran-church-2
If paying online, please stop by the table on the patio to pick up your Christmas cards and donation explanation cards.
