Spring Session Life Group

Publications — Mar 17, 2017

When people seek to grow in their faith, they often overlook the importance of community and fellowship. However, being in community with other Christians is one of the biggest factors in growing your faith. Our Spring Session for Life Groups starts April 23. Through life groups, we can “… spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another… “(Hebrews 10:24-25).

If any of you have sent your child to winter camp, you may have noticed that they come back on fire for God. This is not only because of the amazing speakers and lack of distractions, but also because we are in community with other Christians (even if that means ziplining and sneaking gummy worms during cabin talks.) During these camps, we form a bond from doing fun things together, but also sharing our own faith and discussing what God has done in our lives. Often times, God’s presence is clearest when we are up on the mountain with our friends, surrounded by people who love us and want to grow with us.

Even if you are new to the church or have never been in a Life Group before, there is no safer place to begin fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Life Groups usually have 6-12 people who meet and discuss the message from the past Sunday. Through these discussions, the members in your life group will become extended family. Each session is only 10 weeks with new sessions in the Fall, Winter, and Spring; so, if you end up not connecting in your group, you can always try a new one or take a break. That said, many groups last for years and form an amazing bond. Each Life Group will have a “host” who facilitates the discussion, whether that be in a person’s home or the church. (A training session will be offered for Life Group leaders.)

Jesus calls us to gather together and encourage each other in our faith. Early Christians would “meet together in the temple courts… [breaking] bread in their homes and [eating] together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:46-47). Do not underestimate the power of Christian community and a meal shared.
