Pastor Retiring after 28 Years at Good Shepherd

February 28, 2010

The Rev. James R. Hale, senior pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran in Irvine, will retire at the end of the month after 28 years of service at the church.

Pastor Jim HaleHale will preach his last sermon at Good Shepherd this Sunday at the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. The church is at 4800 Irvine Center Drive.

Under Hale's leadership, Good Shepherd has grown from a small mission congregation, to a congregation of well over 1,500 members, said a church representative. He has been involved in other charitable organizations, most notably helping start Families Forward, which is dedicated to helping the homeless and low-income families.

Pastor Hale, and his wife, JoAnne, a recently retired teacher from Irvine Unified School District, were honored by 360 members of the congregation and past friends, at a retirement gala at the Irvine Regency Hyatt.
