Pastor Hale's Article

Dear Friends of the Good Shepherd

Our Mission: “To know, grow and show God’s love, equipping everyone to pass on the Good News to the next generation.”

Our Church’s Mission Statement (above) may already be becoming “familiar.” On the one hand that’s good. Because we have to be crystal clear on what God is calling us to do. On the other hand, its growing familiarity, may well cause it to fall upon some deaf ears.

Gang, there needs to be a sense of urgency to our mission!

Here’s why…

A recent survey indicates that 65% of people born before 1945 describe themselves as “born again” or devout Christians. For those born between 1946 and 1964, only 35% describe themselves as “born again” or devout Christians. (That means that 65% would not…)

Of those born between 1964 and 1984, only 10% describe themselves as either “born again” or devout. And for those born after 1985, only 4% describe themselves as either “born again” or devout. (That means that 96% do not!!!)

So friends, we have some serious work to do!

When we re-defined the Mission Statement of GSLC, we had a hunch, but these statistics weren’t available to us then.

So, all the more, our mission is to know, grow and show God’s love, equipping everyone to pass on the Good News to the next generation.”

“God help us!”, must be our prayer.

In Jesus' Joy,
Pastor Jim Hale
