Faith-in-Action 2008!
Don't just go to church, be the church! - November 16, 2008
Our 2nd Annual Faith-in-Action Sunday is coming up Nov 16th 2008 and promises to be bigger and better than last year. It will help remind us that our church needs to be outward focused and seek to impact our community and the world. We will have one worship service at 9:30 am at GSLC Main and one service at Northwood.
After the worship is over on Sunday, November 16, 2008 the service will begin! Just look at what we plan to accomplish in Jesus’ name in 2008:
- ELDER CARE
Our GSLC Chancel Choir will give a concert at Atria Woodbridge and reach out to the residents.
- ELDER CARE Crafts
We will work with the residents of Atria Golden Creek to make a craft.
- HYGIENE KITS FOR OC RESCUE MISSION
We will assemble over 150 Hygiene Kits for the people served at the OC Rescue Mission.
- PLANTING FLOWERS
We hope to plant flowers at Canyon View Elementary School as a way of saying thanks to the school for hosting our Northwood church.
- OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Our goal is to have people assemble over 100 Shoeboxes for OCC.
- MEALS AT LOCAL SHELTERS
We hope to prepare and serve a meal (lunch or dinner) on Faith-in-Action Sunday at Isaiah House, OC Rescue Mission, Salvation Army and Human Options.
- WORLD VISION AIDS CAREGIVER KITS
We want to assemble in excess of 330 caregiver kits, and include personal notes of encouragement and children’s artwork in each kit.
- SOLDIERS ANGELS BLANKETS
Volunteers will be tying prayers and putting “hand-prints of love” on baby quilts for the babies born to soldiers overseas.
- BBQ LUNCH
We will keep our volunteers fed again this year!
The Faith-in-Action Team has been diligently working on Faith-in-Action 2008! You will be hearing more about Faith-In-Action in October and our prayer is that you would consider getting involved this year! You can pick up a Registration Form at Church starting October 5th to be part of Faith-in-Action. Our prayer is that we would have an even bigger impact for the Kingdom of God as we work side-by-side and “get our hands dirty.”
This is our way of BEING the Church and putting our Faith-in-Action!
Our total fundraising goal for 2008 is $16,250 for many of the hands on activities listed above. Please pray about how you can give generously to these efforts. Without your donations these efforts would not be possible. Special thanks to our local Thrivent Financial for Lutherans chapter for committing $1600 of Care in Communities Funds to these efforts.
Let’s put our Faith-in-Action Together!

Ladies Active Friday Forums Is Featuring: Frankie Sherman - "Divine Designs”
Friday, October 24, 2008 at 7:15 p.m. in the GSLC Sanctuary
We all have days that we wish would just go away and Frankie will help us change our attitude about them. In this presentation, Frankie will help us learn how to turn a bad hair day into a great prayer day. Listening to her personal testimony, you might think you are watching a scene from Steel Magnolias as Frankie reminisces about growing up down South in the days of big hair and Elvis! But in the midst of the laughter, you will discover a woman who understands about disappointment, real heartache, and the amazing grace of God’s love. Frankie says this presentation is hilarious and addresses many of the issues women really worry about ... good hair, nice shoes, and a bathing suit that doesn’t scare small children! The heart of the lesson is based on Psalm 139:14 ... I will praise you Lord for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. If you’ve ever had a “bad hair day”, you won’t want to miss this one! Bring some friends so they, too, can learn how to deal with “bad hair days!
A donation of $10 will be taken at the door. Everyone is welcome! Bring your friends! No reservations necessary.
Here is a printable flyer to give out to your friends. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required.
